Pivot™ Reimbursement
The Pivot™ is now reimbursable according to Medicare / Medicaid guidelines under the code E2227 - "Manual Wheelchair Accessory, Gear Reduction Drive Wheel."
Are you eligible?
- Do you qualify for a manual wheelchair?
- Can you document that the Pivot™ will either alleviate shoulder pain or give you greater functional mobility / independence?
- If you are covered by Medicare,
- Have you been in a manual chair for at least one year?
- Have you had an evaluation with a specialist, such as physical therapist, occupational therapist, or doctor that demonstrates your need for this device in the home?
Possible justifications
- By using a less stressful means of propulsion, you may better preserve upper body strength and dexterity
- Since the Pivot™ system does not require great manual dexterity, users who are unable to use a standard pushrim manual chair may regain the independence and health benefits associated with manual chair use
- The Pivot™ system is less expensive than a power wheelchair
- The Pivot™ system is more maneuverable within the home than a power wheelchair or scooter
